So what is Art?
What makes us as humans respond in awe, wonder, calm or angst in the presence of Art and similarly, in the presence of Nature?
Do we humans share a common coding? Possibly, yet the depth of our responses is not the same. Our response is unique to our own stories. If we permit it, Art can open the door to discover that connection within ourselves.
That is the rich journey stone carving has opened for me. Each piece takes about six months to create. That is a long time to trust my heart and hands to guide me, particularly since the final work reveals itself over those months. Rarely do I have a preconceived final form, only a rough idea guided by discovery. Along the way, interior stories are revealed about myself. It’s magical. It’s addictive. I can’t wait to start my next piece!
When my work is done, my story is complete. It is the viewer’s turn.
This is what Art means to me.
